Windows 11 Adds APX Toggle for Future CPUs Only - tech|
| (hx) 11:31 PM CET - Oct,26 2026 | Windows 11 Insider Build 29695 includes a new Advanced Performance Extensions (APX) toggle that can improve performance on supported processors. APX doubles the number of general-purpose CPU registers from 16 to 32 so compatible apps can do more work with fewer memory operations.
Intel’s prototype tests showed about 10 percent fewer instructions, 10 percent fewer loads, and over 20 percent fewer stores. These numbers come from simulations and do not mean Windows itself will run 20 percent faster.
The feature is expected first on Intel’s upcoming Nova Lake processors. Existing PCs cannot gain APX through a software update because the required hardware is missing. AMD support is expected later but no timeline has been confirmed.
