BIOS Update Drops 9800X3D Temps From 95°C to 86°C - tech
(hx) 10:37 PM CET - Oct,26 2026
A Ryzen 7 9800X3D owner reported that his CPU constantly hit 95°CC under full load, even with a 360mm AIO cooler. The high temperatures and thermal throttling lasted more than a year despite reinstalling and swapping coolers.

The user runs an MSI X870 Tomahawk motherboard. After updating to the latest BIOS, temperatures fell to 86°C at the same 130W power draw, a 9°C drop.

Wccftech notes that 95°C is not unusual for the 9800X3D under heavy load, and similar reports exist online. However, there is no official confirmation from AMD of a widespread BIOS bug. The improvement is based on one user’s experience and has not been independently verified across many systems.

Owners facing persistent high temperatures after checking cooler mounting may want to try a current BIOS, but results can vary.
