Xbox's First COO Helen Chiang Exits After Just Three Months - console
(hx) 07:48 PM CEST - Oct,24 2026
Helen Chiang has left her role as Xbox's first chief operating officer after only about three months on the job.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the departure in a short internal memo on October 23, 2026. “Helen Chiang is leaving Microsoft today. I’m grateful for her years of service and wish her well,” Sharma wrote. Chiang’s immediate duties will be split among other Xbox leaders while the company finalizes a permanent plan for the COO position.

Chiang spent 21 years at Microsoft and previously led Mojang Studios and the Minecraft franchise. She was promoted to the newly created COO role in July 2026, with end-to-end profit-and-loss responsibility across content, hardware, platform, and services. She reported directly to Sharma.

Microsoft has not given a reason for her exit. When asked, Xbox communications said the company does not discuss individual personnel matters.
