Valve Adds CD-ROM Support to Steam Frame After User Request - briefly|
| (hx) 08:55 AM CEST - Oct,24 2026 | Valve appears to be adding CD-ROM drive support to the Steam Frame VR headset. A user on the Steam Community forums asked why he could not connect a detachable disc drive to watch movies while traveling. A Valve developer replied that the company would look into it.
A few days later, Valve hardware engineer Gabe Rowe added CD-ROM support to the Steam Frame’s software. This change could eventually allow users to connect a USB optical drive, read physical CDs, and potentially play content from discs on the headset.
The update is still early, and full movie playback from commercial discs may face additional hurdles such as CSS decryption. The feature was not part of an official product announcement.
