Modern BIOS UIs Got Fancy, But Most Users Still Use Advanced Mode - tech
(hx) 07:54 PM CEST - Oct,17 2026
Motherboard makers have spent years turning BIOS menus into flashy, mouse-driven interfaces with animated dashboards and overclocking widgets. The result looks more like a gaming app than a traditional setup screen.

Most people who actually change BIOS settings still press F7 to enter Advanced Mode and navigate the same old menus with arrow keys. The colorful interface adds little practical value for everyday configuration tasks.

Yeah, fancy graphics in the BIOS are completely useless to me - and the ability to control everything with a mouse... for God's sake, who comes up with this stuff? The BIOS could actually be really well-designed, given the capabilities available today - sticking to a text-based mode, for instance, but adding features like online updates (ASUS used to have this, but I haven't seen it on a new motherboard in quite a while, and I don't think I've ever seen it on a laptop). Or how about better explanations for individual settings? Sometimes you practically have to download the manual or ask an AI just to figure things out - you know those mysterious key combinations (common on laptops) that you need just to make a certain option appear... and so on.
