Amazon Buyer Gets Fake Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 With Intel CPU Underneath - tech

A Reddit user reported receiving a suspicious AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor from Amazon. He compared two CPUs that were both sold and shipped by Amazon and arrived in sealed boxes.

The older unit showed the expected AM5 gold contact layout. The newer one had a large area without contacts and an underside that resembles an older Intel desktop CPU substrate. Hardware observers noted that the layout and components do not match a genuine AM5 Ryzen processor.

The suspected explanation is a return scam. Someone may have removed the heat spreader from a real 9950X3D2, attached it to an old Intel CPU, and returned the modified chip to Amazon. Both units reportedly arrived sealed.

The buyer says both packages were sealed, but this alone cannot establish whether the CPU was previously returned or modified before delivery. Amazon has not provided an explanation in the material available.
