RollerCoaster Tycoon Was 99% Assembly - briefly|
| (hx) 11:13 PM CEST - Oct,05 2026 | A viral post says you cannot disassemble RollerCoaster Tycoon because Chris Sawyer wrote it in raw assembly. That mixes up two jobs.
Sawyer’s own FAQ says the 1999 game is 99 percent x86 assembly, built with Microsoft’s Macro Assembler. Only a small slice of C talks to Windows and DirectX. There is no higher-level source for most of the game.
You can still disassemble the binary. What you cannot recover is C code that was never written. Fans later rebuilt it as OpenRCT2 by reading that binary. That project is a reimplementation, not Sawyer’s original source. |
