Cheater's Ban Follows a Used Ryzen 7 5800X3D - tech|
| (hx) 10:05 AM CEST - Oct,04 2026 |
A German buyer says a second-hand AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D locked him out of Valorant the moment he launched it. He bought the chip on Kleinanzeigen, has owned it since September 21, and says the processor itself worked. Valorant had run normally on his previous CPU.
On r/PCBaumeister he wrote that Riot support told him the CPU ID was blacklisted on August 12 because the previous owner cheated. He later claimed the block also hit his motherboard and storage, and that support would not lift it.
Riot anti-cheat lead Phillip Koskinas pushed back on October 2. He said he could not find the ticket and called that account unlikely. Koskinas said hardware bans last four months at most, apply only to the game where cheats were found, and do not blacklist every other part when one component matches. He has also said second-hand cases number under a dozen in six years.
The report started on Reddit, then ran in heise and TechPowerUp. The support exchange is the buyer’s account. Riot has not confirmed this ticket. |

Now we’re going down Alice in wonderland. So this kicks the crap out of the secondhand market.
Talk about a slippery slope…

If you buy a car from a criminal, it should not automatically make you a criminal.
If they track hardware, they must also track owner changes, simple as that.
They can't harass people for buying used hardware.
