Sony Brings AI Upscaling to the Base PS5 - console|
| (hx) 10:14 PM CEST - Oct,02 2026 | Sony is bringing AI upscaling to the original PlayStation 5. The feature is called Quick Spectral Super Resolution, or QSSR. It is a lighter version of the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution tech already on the PS5 Pro. Sony says the Pro version stays the gold standard, and that full PSSR was too heavy for the base console.
QSSR came out of Sony’s AI graphics work with AMD. The company says it adds detail and keeps the picture steadier than older upscaling.
Patches for Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei went out October 1 and add QSSR as an option on PS5. Other studios can use the library, but a game has to be updated to get it.
