Windows 11 26H2 Turns Settings Backup On - tech|
| (hx) 09:18 AM CEST - Oct,02 2026 | Microsoft has turned Windows settings backup on by default in Windows 11, version 26H2. The change covers eligible work PCs that are joined to Microsoft Entra, or hybrid joined, when an admin has not already set a backup policy.
The backup saves user settings, preferences, and the list of Microsoft Store apps. It runs about every eight days. Restore is not on by default. An admin still has to allow that.
A device with the policy set to off stays off. Microsoft’s message also keeps the default off in privacy-sensitive regions, which reports tie to the EU Digital Markets Act, and in China or sovereign clouds. The Windows Update post does not mention those limits. |
