Intel Warned Years Ago: USB 3.0 Can Break 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi - tech|
| (hx) 11:05 PM CEST - Sep,26 2026 | XDA is recycling a real Intel finding, not a new 2026 hack: USB 3.0 data can spray radio noise into the same 2.4–2.5 GHz band used by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Intel’s April 2012 white paper said that noise can come from a USB 3.0 port, cable, or drive and raise the noise floor when a wireless antenna sits close by.
In one test, plugging in a USB 3.0 hard drive lifted 2.4 GHz noise by nearly 20 dB and made a wireless mouse lag a few feet away.
Better shielding, moving the dongle, using a USB 2.0 port, or jumping to 5 GHz Wi-Fi usually fixes it.
This is RF interference, not malware, and it does not hit every setup the same way.
If your 2.4 GHz link dies only after you plug in a fast USB stick, that old Intel paper is still the reason.

Same with remote controls and DECT phones using the same frequency. |
