NVIDIA Rejects RTX 5090 Warranty Over Faded Serial Number - tech
(hx) 07:41 PM CEST - Sep,17 2026
NVIDIA reportedly denied an RMA request for an RTX 5090 Founders Edition graphics card because the serial number printed on its metal bracket had faded and become unreadable. The owner experienced black-screen crashes under heavy load and sent the card for repair with the original box, invoice, and proof of purchase showing a matching serial number. NVIDIA kept the GPU for over 30 days before rejecting the claim solely due to the illegible marking. Multiple other RTX Founders Edition owners have reported the same fading issue on the bracket after normal use and heat exposure. The problem appears to affect some RTX 50-series cards and has led to mixed RMA outcomes for users.
My RTX 5090 FE RMA was rejected because the physical serial number is no longer readable — has anyone experienced this?

I'd expect a class-action lawsuit, Nvidia building fading serial numbers on purpose.
