Windows 11 Patch Blamed for HP BIOS Boot Loops - tech|
| (hx) 12:33 AM CEST - Sep,17 2026 | Windows 11 security update KB5121003 is being blamed for boot loops on some HP laptops after the August 2026 Patch Tuesday. Users say the patch installs, then the PC freezes on the HP logo and Automatic Repair rolls the update back. Some reports list install error 0x800f0845.
One HP OmniBook X owner said HP support told them the update changed BIOS settings, and a factory-default BIOS reset let later updates install. HP also shipped BIOS F.07 for that line with a note that it improves stability when Windows Update runs. An IT admin said similar install failures showed up on some Lenovo and Dell PCs, but Microsoft has not confirmed BIOS damage. Separate Lenovo reports describe AC power dropouts after the same patch, which is a different problem.
