Frequent Gamers Score Like Younger Minds - briefly|
| (hx) 08:25 PM CEST - Sep,14 2026 | A Western University study found frequent video-game players scored higher on online cognitive tests than non-gamers. In a later briefing, lead author Adrian Owen said people who played one game type five or more hours a week performed like non-gamers about 13.7 years younger.
The peer-reviewed PLOS ONE paper, published 24 October 2025, analyzed 923 adults from the Brain and Body study. More gaming time was linked to better short-term memory, reasoning, and processing speed, but the paper defined 'frequent' as three or more hours a week and did not print the 13.7-year figure. The work is cross-sectional, so it does not prove games make the brain younger. Exercise meeting WHO guidelines tracked with better mood scores, not better test scores. |
