MIRI Chief Tells Tucker Super-AI Could End Humanity - briefly|
| (hx) 10:45 AM CEST - Sep,12 2026 | Tucker Carlson published a two-hour interview Friday with Nate Soares, president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, who argues that the race to build superintelligent AI is on a path that would kill every person on Earth. Soares previously worked as an engineer at Google and Microsoft and as a contractor for the U.S. Defense Department, then spent more than a decade on AI alignment research at MIRI.
He is co-author, with Eliezer Yudkowsky, of the 2025 New York Times bestseller "If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies". In the interview they discuss whether such systems can be switched off, U.S.–China competition, weapons and biolabs, Neuralink, and whether there is still a way to halt the race.
Soares’ warning is his published argument, not a proven forecast, and other AI researchers dispute that extinction is the default outcome.
