RPCS3 Now Plays PS3 Discs on PC - No Dump Needed - briefly|

RPCS3 can now boot original PlayStation 3 Blu-ray discs on a PC, without first copying the whole game to an SSD.
Windows already had on-disc play; a merge on 31 August 2026 extended the same path to Linux, macOS and FreeBSD.
You still need a compatible Blu-ray drive that can browse the disc’s files, plus the matching Redump decryption key so the emulator can decrypt data on the fly.
The project also sped up package installs from the drive, so physical games from nearly 20 years ago can run without Sony’s servers.
Not every optical drive works - Pioneer units are a known miss - and a console is not required.
