Burning Man 2026 opened Sunday in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. At noon Aug. 30 the wait to the gate was 8 hours 20 minutes. By 6:45 p.m. Burning Man’s traffic account had it down to five.

Gates opened at 12:01 a.m. Sunday for the week that runs through Sept. 7. Organizers already warn that the first 36 hours can mean five-plus hours in line. Pack water.

The photo is the queue on the playa: RVs and cars bent into one long curve. That is the price of arriving on day one.

Tuesday is quieter. The desert is not.
