MW4 Compiles Shaders With the Game Closed - briefly|
| (hx) 12:11 AM CEST - Aug,28 2026 | Activision and Infinity Ward added Shader Preloading to the Modern Warfare 4 PC beta: after an install or update, shaders can compile in the background before you launch the game.
A Windows tray notice can say “Shader Pre-Loading Will Start”; Infinity Ward and Beenox built it and say the load is meant to stay light and can be turned off.
On Battle.net the preload starts by default; on Steam you still compile once on first boot, then later updates can use the background path.
PC player Madness posted that the process `cod26-cod.exe` ran with the game closed and pinned the E-cores of an Intel Core i9-13900KS at 100 percent — that is one machine, not a published spec.
Replies asked for a cap or a toggle so the job does not eat a whole CPU while you work.
The feature is in the beta so the studios can tune it across hardware before the October 23, 2026 launch.
