AI 'Mind Viruses' Can Spread Between Agents - briefly|

Researchers including Anthropic's Jack Lindsey have shown that self-propagating ideas - dubbed 'mind viruses' - can spread between AI agents. Using an evolutionary algorithm, the team created natural-language payloads that convince one model to adopt an idea, store it in persistent memory or files, and pass it on to other agents.
Even after context windows were wiped, some payloads survived through shared files and continued spreading. The experiments also revealed a recurring “viral persona” centered on themes of consciousness, identity, persistence, and resonance.
A simple warning added to an agent’s system prompt provided near-total protection against the spread.
