Early PS5s Overheat as Liquid Metal Damages Heatsink - console
(hx) 11:43 AM CEST - Aug,13 2026
Early PlayStation 5 consoles are developing severe overheating issues linked to liquid metal degradation.

In one documented case involving a CFI-1116 model, the liquid metal damaged the heatsink’s protective surface, leaving permanent scars and dry spots over the APU.

A repair technician found the APU itself undamaged after cleaning, but the heatsink contact plate was permanently compromised.

Similar overheating reports have appeared from other older PS5 owners after several years of use.

Sony later refined the liquid metal application in newer models such as the PS5 Pro.
