Linus Ranks Every Windows Version - tech|
| (hx) 07:25 PM CEST - Aug,10 2026 | Linus Tech Tips has released a new video ranking every major version of Windows from 1.0 to Windows 11.
Windows 7 received the highest rating, earning an S-tier for its stability, performance, and refinements over Vista.
Windows 8 was ranked the worst with an F, mainly due to the controversial removal of the Start button and heavy touch-focused design.
Windows XP and Windows 98 also scored highly for their impact and usability at the time.
Windows 11 received a low D rating over privacy concerns and AI features.

I won't comment on pre Windows 3.11 because let's face it, they were largely useless. You did not use it unless you had to.
I loved the OS/2 Warp shell for Windows 3.11, it was very nice and usable.
Windows 95 was meh. I mostly went back to DOS instead; the only reasons to boot up to Win95 were a) to burn CDs and b) work in office.
Win98SE was the next best (the first real step away from DOS) and then Windows 2k brought reliability and then these two combined became XP. |
