Cancelled Quake 4 expansion gets surprise GitHub release - briefly

A nearly finished build of the cancelled Quake 4 expansion, Quake 4: Awakening, has been released on GitHub after being found on an old hard drive. Former developer Justin Marshall discovered the files on a second-hand PC he bought online and uploaded them for preservation. The expansion, developed by Ritual Entertainment, was reportedly around 95% complete before Activision cancelled it due to poor sales of the base game. Marshall said finding the lost project “essentially saved my life” during a difficult personal time.
