RTX 5090 Owner Builds Tool to Stop Cable Melting - tech|
| (hx) 09:24 AM CEST - Aug,07 2026 |
An RTX 5090 owner has created a free open-source tool that automatically shuts down the PC if the 12VHPWR power connector draws too much power.
The software monitors each power pin and triggers a shutdown if any pin exceeds safe limits for more than 15 seconds.
It currently works only with ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 cards, which have per-pin current sensors.
The lightweight tool runs in the background and is available on GitHub for anyone to download or improve.
This aims to prevent the well-known risk of 12VHPWR connectors overheating and melting under high load.
