Microsoft Quietly Adds OneDrive Photos App to Windows 11 - tech

Microsoft has begun automatically installing a new app called OneDrive Photos on Windows 11 devices.

The app can scan and display photos stored locally on the PC even if the user is not signed into a Microsoft account.

After signing in, it unlocks AI-powered search, OCR text recognition, and optional facial grouping of people in photos.

Users report the app appeared without any notification or manual installation.

Microsoft says facial recognition data is only visible to the account owner and can be deleted by turning the feature off.

The rollout has raised privacy concerns about expanding AI access to personal photo libraries.
