Minecraft Java Raises Specs After 17 Years - briefly
(hx) 12:35 PM CEST - Jul,27 2026
Mojang has updated the official system requirements for Minecraft Java Edition for the first time in 17 years.

Recommended RAM is now 16GB, while the minimum rises to 8GB with a discrete GPU or 12GB with integrated graphics.

A Vulkan 1.3-compatible GPU is now required as the game transitions away from OpenGL.

An experimental Vulkan renderer was already added in the June 2026 update.

The changes also prepare the game for the upcoming “Vibrant Visuals” graphics overhaul.

Older systems can still launch the game, but performance is no longer guaranteed below the new minimum.
