One UI 9 brings a major security upgrade to Galaxy devices - tech
(hx) 01:22 PM CEST - Jul,25 2026
Samsung has strengthened lock screen security in One UI 9.

If you repeatedly enter the wrong PIN, pattern or password, the wait time between attempts keeps increasing.

After 13 failed unlock attempts the device becomes permanently locked.

The only way to use it again is to perform a factory reset.

This change aims to better protect against brute-force attacks on Galaxy devices.
Starting from devices launched with One UI 9.0, Samsung has implemented stricter lock screen security measures to better safeguard your personal data against unauthorized brute-force attacks (continuous random guessing of passwords). Please note that if you exceed the maximum number of allowed attempts, your device will be permanently locked, and you will need to perform a full factory reset to use it again. These policy changes help prevent data breaches but require extra care when entering your security credentials.

Please make sure to remember your PIN, Pattern, or Password.
