Source 2 Gets Major Physics Upgrade for Possible HL3 - briefly|
| (hx) 03:57 PM CEST - Jul,20 2026 |
Leaked details and recent developer comments suggest Valve is heavily upgrading the Source 2 engine with new technology that could power Half-Life 3.
Hidden files reportedly point to realistic real-time global illumination (RTGI), advanced water physics, dynamic weather systems, and a brand-new physics engine called “Ragnarok.”
Ragnarok appears to be the evolution of the Rubikon physics system used in Half-Life: Alyx.
The upgrade was referenced by physics developer Erin Catto while open-sourcing his own Box3D engine, noting that Valve is advancing the tech for future games.
Fans believe these improvements are being built with the long-rumored Half-Life project in mind.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Valve.
