FBI Arrests Student for Hiding Crypto-Stealing Malware Inside Steam Games - briefly|
| (hx) 10:20 PM CEST - Jul,18 2026 |
The FBI has arrested 21-year-old Florida resident Zyaire Wilkins for allegedly uploading multiple malware-infected video games to Steam over a two-year period.
The fake games, including titles like BlockBlasters, Dashverse, Lampy, Lunara, and PirateFi, appeared functional but secretly installed malware that stole passwords, personal data, and drained cryptocurrency wallets.
According to federal prosecutors, the operation infected around 8,000 computers and compromised approximately 80 crypto wallets, resulting in at least $220,000 in stolen digital assets.
The games were promoted through Discord, LinkedIn, and Telegram, and investigators traced cryptocurrency transactions to gift card purchases linked directly to Wilkins.
Federal agents searched his residence and seized electronic devices and digital wallets before arresting him this week.
