Valve Warns: AI Servers Are Hoarding RAM and SSDs - Consumer Prices Keep Climbing - briefly|
| (hx) 10:15 PM CEST - Jul,18 2026 |
Valve has issued a tstark warning that the global memory shortage shows no signs of easing, with RAM and SSD prices expected to keep rising for the foreseeable future.
Engineers revealed that memory manufacturers are prioritizing high-end chips for AI data centers, leaving far less supply available for consumer products like gaming PCs and handhelds.
The company said securing even small quantities of memory now requires intense negotiations, as suppliers favor big AI buyers willing to pay premium prices.
Items that were once easy-to-obtain commodity parts a year or two ago have become difficult to source, with Valve noting there are “so many more people in line in front of you.”
The shortage, driven by explosive AI infrastructure demand, is already forcing higher hardware prices across the industry and shows no light at the end of the tunnel.
