Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto VI exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in November 2026, with no PC version available at launch.
According to a former Rockstar producer, this decision is driven by the advantages of developing for consoles’ fixed and well-known hardware rather than the wide range of PC configurations.
By focusing on consoles first, the team can dedicate all resources to optimizing performance, thermal limits, and visuals without needing to support older graphics cards or highly varied PC setups.
The ex-producer explained that scaling a game down for consoles is more technically demanding than simply adding extra effects for more powerful hardware.
This strategy allows Rockstar to deliver the best possible experience on consoles from day one, with a PC version expected to follow later once development resources allow for proper refinement.
