Apple Sues OpenAI for Allegedly Stealing Billions in Hardware Trade Secrets - briefly|
| (hx) 10:51 AM CEST - Jul,11 2026 |
Apple has filed a lawsuit accusing OpenAI of systematically stealing its confidential hardware engineering secrets, manufacturing processes, and supply chain details through poached employees.
The complaint claims OpenAI’s Chief Hardware Officer and other ex-Apple staff encouraged departing workers to bring proprietary documents, unreleased prototypes, circuit designs, and supplier information to help build OpenAI’s own consumer AI devices.
Apple alleges the theft covers everything from power management and battery systems to testing methods, proprietary alloys, and even “negative know-how” — what didn’t work in their decades of development.
The company says OpenAI operated at every level, from technical staff to leadership, in what it describes as a coordinated campaign to copy its hardware playbook worth hundreds of billions.
OpenAI has not yet publicly responded in detail, but the suit seeks an injunction, destruction of stolen materials, and damages.
