Windows 11 Storage Bug Can Quietly Devour Hundreds of GB on Your C: Drive - tech|
| (hx) 11:45 AM CEST - Jul,07 2026 |
Microsoft has confirmed a nasty Windows 11 bug that causes a hidden system file to grow uncontrollably and eat up massive amounts of storage space.
The problematic file, CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal, sits in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\CapabilityAccessManager\ and is tied to privacy and access logging for features like camera, microphone, location, and screen capture.
On affected PCs, the file can balloon from a few megabytes to 70GB, 200GB, or even over 500GB, appearing under “System files” in Storage settings.
Microsoft quietly fixed the issue in the optional update **KB5095093**, which improves disk space usage for this file.
The fix is expected to roll out automatically to all users with the July 2026 Patch Tuesday update. |
