Gen Z Shows Cognitive Decline Tied to Screens and EdTech - briefly
(hx) 02:40 PM CEST - Jun,20 2026
Scientists have identified a reversal of the long-standing Flynn effect, where Generation Z is showing lower performance than previous generations in key cognitive areas like attention, memory, literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving.

Neuroscientist Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath testified before the U.S. Senate on January 15, 2026, highlighting stalled or reversed cognitive development in children across much of the developed world over the past two decades.

Data from international assessments such as PISA and TIMSS show declines beginning in the mid-2000s and accelerating after 2010, despite more years spent in formal education.

Horvath points to the widespread integration of digital screens and educational technology (EdTech) in classrooms as the primary driver, arguing that these tools fragment attention and reduce deep, focused learning.

Teens now spend over half their waking hours on screens, often leading to off-task behavior and shallower processing of information.

This trend raises serious concerns about long-term impacts on workforce skills, innovation, and societal reasoning abilities.

Only took 26 years to see the obvious devolvement of generations. No eye contact, no emotions, no speak - mute generation.
Unable to workout that ‘owning a pc doesn’t mean that ALL games should work on it’. Despite explaining to them. Zero technical skills, can’t post specs start sentences with ‘it’s the games fault’.
Absolutely unemployable.

The future is dumb. Ever watch the Time Machine with Rod Taylor? When he meets the people that are all blonde and are copies of each other as thick as shit and the library books are all crumbling. That’s what is panning out.

What a fucking mess of a planet
