USB Worm Spreads Crypto-Stealing Malware via Windows Shortcuts - tech
(hx) 12:08 AM CEST - Jun,19 2026
A new USB worm is spreading crypto-stealing malware on Windows systems by hiding malicious shortcut (LNK) files on USB drives.

When users open an infected shortcut, the malware activates and replaces copied cryptocurrency wallet addresses in the clipboard with attacker-controlled ones.

It also steals seed phrases, private keys, and captures screenshots while communicating through the Tor network to stay hidden.

The worm spreads further by creating fake document shortcuts and automatically infecting any new USB drives plugged into the system.

This campaign combines clipboard hijacking with worm-like propagation, making it especially dangerous for crypto users on Windows.
