Blizzard has filed a new lawsuit against one of the largest World of Warcraft private servers — **Ascension** — demanding its immediate closure and financial compensation.
The lawsuit, filed in the Central District of California, targets the server operators for copyright infringement, distributing modified game software, and allegedly operating as an organized group exploiting Blizzard’s intellectual property.
Ascension, which claims over a million players, offers custom versions of Classic WoW (Vanilla, TBC, WotLK) with modified clients that bypass official Battle.net and subscriptions.
This comes shortly after Blizzard successfully shut down another popular private server, Turtle WoW, earlier this year, setting a strong legal precedent.
The company is also invoking RICO laws, suggesting the operation functions like a coordinated criminal enterprise profiting from donations for in-game advantages.
