ASUS $50 'Anti-Melt' GPU Cable Reportedly Catches Fire - tech

An ASUS ROG Equalizer power cable, sold for $50 as a fix for melting GPU connectors, has reportedly caught fire in its first known incident.

The special cable uses a metal bridge to evenly distribute power across the 12V-2x6 connector pins on high-end NVIDIA graphics cards.

Photos shared online show burn marks and melted plastic on the GPU-side connector.

The incident follows ongoing complaints about the controversial power connector design on RTX 40- and 50-series cards.

The cable is not yet available in all regions and was positioned as a premium safety upgrade.

ASUS has not yet commented on the reports.
