AMD Rejects Ryzen 9 7950X3D Warranty Claim After CPU Swelling - tech|
| (hx) 12:25 PM CEST - Jun,08 2026 |
A Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU failed with visible swelling on the substrate after the system suddenly shut down with a loud pop while idle in April 2026.
The PC, built in May 2023 with a Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER motherboard and no manual overclocking or voltage tweaks, was inspected by Gigabyte — the board passed all tests with a replacement CPU.
AMD reviewed photos and rejected the warranty claim, stating it showed “visible human-caused damage” and that physical damage is not covered.
The swelling may be linked to early 2023 AM5 platform voltage issues that were later addressed by BIOS updates capping SoC voltage at 1.3V.
The original BIOS version is unknown after a reflash, so it remains unclear if the system was running an affected early firmware.
Users are advised to keep BIOS updated and carefully review warranty terms for physical damage exclusions.
