DOOM Retro v6.1, the classic and refined source port for DOOM on Windows PC, is now available for free download.
The open-source update adds automatic support for Master Levels when `doom2.wad` and `masterlevels.wad` are in the same folder.
New features include brightmaps for sprites and flats via a `BRGHTMPS` lump in PWADs, plus the ability to rebind screen size keys.
The release improves overall stability, fixes bugs on older Windows versions (including palette corruption and startup errors), and updates SDL_mixer to v2.8.2.
Additional refinements cover texture alignment, console warnings, menu behavior, and ID24-compatible intermissions.
Built with Visual Studio Community 2026, the minimalist port continues its focus on a faithful yet enhanced classic DOOM experience. |
