Firefox Crashes Fixed After Intel CPU Bug Exposed - tech|
| (hx) 11:01 PM CEST - May,22 2026 |
Intel's 13th and 14th generation Raptor Lake CPUs have hidden hardware bugs (RPL050 and RPL060) that cause cache errors and wrong data between processor cores.
These flaws triggered mysterious out-of-bounds crashes in Firefox for over a year, especially during hot weather in Europe, as the browser's compression code exposed the problem.
Intel issued a microcode update in early 2025 but didn't fully respond to Mozilla's concerns.
Mozilla added a smart workaround in Firefox 151.0.1 (released May 2026) that avoids the buggy code path and reduces crashes even without the CPU update.
