Microsoft Issues Urgent Fix for BitLocker "YellowKey" BypassMicrosoft has released manual steps to block a serious zero-day flaw (CVE-2026-45585) in Windows BitLocker that lets attackers with physical access bypass encryption using a USB stick and the Windows Recovery Environment.
The YellowKey exploit, publicly shared on GitHub, works on Windows 11, Server 2022, and Server 2025 by injecting code that unlocks drives without a PIN or recovery key.
No automatic patch exists yet, so admins must follow Microsoft's six-step guide to update the WinRE image and switch to TPM+PIN protection.
