ASUS Fake Copper Scandal Hits Premium ROG Board - tech|
| (hx) 05:42 PM CEST - May,20 2026 |
ASUS is facing criticism for using copper-colored aluminum heatsinks on its new ROG Crosshair 2006 anniversary motherboard instead of real copper.
The board aims to recreate the retro look of the 2006 original with its flashy orange-toned cooling fins, but tech site FanlessTech revealed they're just anodized aluminum.
Real copper offers better heat transfer, making this a letdown for a high-end AMD X870E board that carries a premium price tag.
As copper prices rise, this cost-cutting move may signal a wider industry shift away from the material.

I’m glad I bought my MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WI-FI DDR5 nearly 2 1/2 years ago.
It has a whopping 2 oz copper.
