Google just showcased a major leap in AI at I/O 2026: using Antigravity 2.0 and Gemini 3.5 Flash, a team of 93 parallel AI agents built a functional operating system from scratch.
The agents handled everything—including the kernel, process management, memory, filesystem, and drivers—autonomously in just 12 hours, with over 15,000 model requests and 2.6 billion tokens processed.
All code was generated, audited, and tested without any human help, and the resulting OS could even run games like Doom.
This demo highlights Google's push toward agent-first development, making complex software creation faster and cheaper than ever.
