Meta is laying off about 8,000 workers - 10% of its global staff - with cuts starting May 20. The company just reported a massive Q1 revenue of $56.31 billion, up 33% from last year. Bosses say the job losses will help fund a huge $125–145 billion push into AI data centers.

Workers are furious, especially over new laptop software that tracks mouse clicks, movements, and even takes screenshots to train AI — with no way to turn it off. Some employees are actually hoping to get cut so they can take the 16 weeks of severance plus 18 months of health coverage.
