Apple's Silent Charger Tweak Sparks Outrage: New MacBook Pro Adapter Breaks Old Accessories - tech
(hx) 12:58 PM CEST - Apr,03 2026
Apple has quietly altered the removable duckhead plug on the 140W USB-C Power Adapter bundled with the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring M5 Pro and Max chips. The plug now features a pill-shaped design instead of the previous modified C7 version, while keeping the adapter's overall dimensions and power specs identical.

This subtle change renders certain accessories incompatible, including Apple's own Power Adapter Extension Cable and the discontinued World Travel Adapter Kit. Users in regions like Australia and China first spotted the issue via teardowns and Reddit discussions, with some still receiving the older version depending on their purchase.

The incompatibility affects travelers and those relying on modular charging solutions, though the separately sold 140W adapter's status remains unclear. No official response from Apple has been issued so far.

Sounds like a class-action suit or something for the EU to tackle.
Apple is hell-bent on locking down their ecosystem and producing and selling e-waste. The EU is not.
Why not ban Apple as a whole in the EU? This type of culture does not fit the EU and it should not fit anyone else who is conscious about the future of this planet. We should be reusing everything we can.

Apple is doing the right thing. STFU and buy.
