Insider KeplerL2 reports that Valve is currently targeting 2028 for the release of the Steam Deck successor. Delays remain possible due to ongoing industry-wide shortages of RAM and NAND flash memory.

Unlike upcoming consoles such as the PS6 or next Xbox, which rely on semi-custom SoCs, Valve's approach uses standard components, potentially allowing integration of newer chips or improved specs if pushed back. This patient strategy aims for a substantial performance leap in handheld gaming, extending the current Steam Deck's lifecycle for owners.
