Chrome Zero-Day Nightmare: Hackers Exploit WebGPU Flaw in the Wild - Update Now or Risk Takeover - tech

Google has released an emergency patch for Chrome addressing 21 vulnerabilities, including the actively exploited zero-day CVE-2026-5281, a high-severity use-after-free bug in the Dawn WebGPU component.

The flaw allows a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process to execute arbitrary code via a crafted HTML page. This marks the fourth Chrome zero-day patched by Google in 2026. Users should immediately update to version 146.0.7680.178 (Windows/macOS) or 146.0.7680.177 (Linux) through the browser's About section. Chromium-based browsers like Edge and Brave may also need updates as they become available.
