Ever wondered why pro gamers play with their face practically touching the monitor? - briefly

Pro Gamers' Nose-to-Screen Setup: Milliseconds That Win MillionsProfessional esports players often sit with their faces inches from the monitor, a tactic that sparks curiosity and concern among casual observers. The real reason isn't poor eyesight—it's a calculated strategy to slash eye movement (saccades) and accelerate visual processing, allowing them to detect tiny pixel changes and react up to a few milliseconds faster in high-stakes matches.
This proximity enlarges the on-screen field of view, minimizes peripheral distractions, and slightly reduces the physical distance light travels to the eyes, giving competitors an edge where every fraction of a second can decide tournament victories worth millions.
Studies on esports athletes confirm elite players exhibit superior reaction times and optimized gaze behavior compared to non-pros, underscoring how such setups contribute to peak performance.
However, experts warn that prolonged close-range viewing heightens risks of eye strain, fatigue, and potential long-term vision issues, prompting recommendations like the 20-20-20 rule for breaks. While the practice remains common in FPS and competitive scenes, some suggest standardized monitor distances could level the playing field and protect players' health.

Whatever I had to achieve in school sports I did.
But I really lack the dedication. I have no motivation at all to bend and deform myself both physical or emotional for "competition".
I can imagine people getting neuralink to plug in more processing power or idk a third arm for having an advantage. Ok. It's fine.

Cool, and the bad eyesight comes a few years later, and if they didn't make a lot of money, oh well, st least they made regrets for life.
