GeForce RTX 5090 prices to soar to $5,000 as NVIDIA and AMD prep GPU price hikes in Q1 2026. - tech
(hx) 06:21 PM CET - Dec,31 2025
According to Wccftech, NVIDIA and AMD are gearing up for significant GPU price increases starting in the first quarter of 2026, driven primarily by soaring DRAM costs that have reportedly pushed manufacturing expenses up by as much as 80% due to memory alone. The flagship GeForce RTX 5090, which launched with a $1999–$2000 MSRP, could see prices climb to as high as $5000 in the coming months—a potential 2.5x jump. AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series (RDNA 4) will also be affected, with hikes expected to roll out gradually.Reports indicate AMD may begin raising prices as early as January 2026, followed by NVIDIA in February, with incremental adjustments possibly continuing monthly. Additional factors include consumer gaming GPUs being repurposed for AI applications in Asian markets, further tightening supply. These developments, based on industry sources cited by outlets like Newsis, could make 2026 a challenging year for PC gamers and builders looking to upgrade.

I foresee a market where GPUs are sold without memory and people can stick in whatever modules they want.
Not that I would buy a GPU this bad.

Been there got the T-Shirt ;)
We've already had that market in the 90's
We had a 2mb SE in our PC that had two sockets for upgrading to 4 mb

Trio64V 2MB RAM - Well, that was a long time ago, LOL. You reminded me of this:

Otherwise, I still think nostalgically about my first Voodoo2 card... and that feeling when I first saw the game Unreal. Probably the only thing that compares (in terms of feeling) is when I first heard music from a CD. Just incredible dynamics and a wow effect.
