The world's first 240 Hz OLED screen on the MSI Raider GE67 HX gaming laptop revealed - tech
(hx) 05:03 PM CEST - Aug,19 2022
MSI’s Raider GE67 HX 2022 gaming laptop is the first to feature a 15.6-inch 1440p OLED display with 240 Hz. Vincent Theo from HDTVTest managed to get his hands on the MSI laptop and one of his latest Youtube videos reveals how it compares to existing OLED TVs and monitors. Right off the bat, Theo claims that the 240 Hz display undoubtedly delivers the clearest and cleanest motion seen on modern displays (including plasmas). It turns out that the 240 Hz panel is supplied by Samsung Display, but it is not using QD-OLED technology. Given its spectral power distribution and subpixel arrangement that could cause fringing artifacts on some smaller Windows fonts, the 240 Hz screen appears to be similar to the OLED displays found on Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro. In order to improve perceived contrast, MSI included a glossy finish for the OLED display, which is quite a rare sight on non-Apple laptops nowadays. Unfortunately, this coating exhibits yellow tinting off axis, with some rainbow effect at extreme angles. The smaller size of the panel does not allow it to be too bright on 10% test windows (606 cd/m²), but it is plenty bright full field at 450 cd/m².
