NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards already available on second-hand market - tech|

NVIDIA’s upcoming mid-range GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card has just appeared on Belarusian second-hand market Onliner. Probably no other graphics card in history was sold in this number before it was even officially released. We have been hearing about distributors and retailers selling RTX 3060 before the embargo in almost every part of the planet. This is despite no drivers being available, which essentially generates those cards useless in gaming, but not for mining.
A person named Artem is offering three Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Eagle OC graphics cards for sale at a price of 2800 BYN, which is 1080 USD. Unfortunately, this is not the price of all three cards, but for a single one. So yes, this person is selling RTX 3060 for 1080 USD each. The description says that one of the graphics cards was already unpacked for verification. One would guess that the verification was limited to checking mining performance. NVIDIA has announced that RTX 3060 will be the first graphics card that will feature a crypto-mining limiter, that will reduce the hash rate once the firmware detects the mining algorithm. Upon checking how slow the graphics card is, the seller might have decided to get rid of the graphics cards. However, there are reports that due to the high value of cryptocurrency, the RTX 3060 can still generate enough money to be considered profitable. (thanks Videocardz.com) |

| gx-x | (12:19 AM CET - Mar,01 2021 ) | Well, it will take some time to fully recover. A lot of "new" people give up as soon as they see ~50% price drop within a month or so then they start selling hardware to recover more money.
It's a guess game anyway. Seeing the cycle before and watching trends- the only certain thing is that it will happen this year. |

In addition, GPU prices with reduced hash compute performance should be flagged and sold cheaper - after all, you are buying a purposefully vandalized product. |

| gx-x | (08:51 PM CET - Mar,02 2021 ) | Regular GPU's are better than (current) CMP cards(3060 vs 3060 cmp). Current CMP card uses more electricity and has lower hash rate than non-CMP model. Also, CMP models can be turned back into regular cards, just lacking monitor output, so you would have to use integrated graphics or another output to monitor and set the CMP card to render cuda, physics, and games.
It simply makes no sense to mine (arbitrary numbers here) to buy a CMP card to mine 25Mhs @130W when the same card, non-CMP model mines 30MHs @70W. (I am not going to fix the sentence, I know it's messed up :P )
edit: there is already an easy override for current CMP cards, but unless they are only ones left, no one is going to "prefer" them.
Only solution would be if CMP cards did >35MHs @70W while non-CMP card did 30MHs @70W but the pricing on both model is similar. |

The problem is that even 4 year old cards mine better than their current mining cards... |
